ACCORDING TO KATHY PLOMER, PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD

Newsroom/El Comercio de Colorado

Kathy Plomer in excited to continue leading the Adams 12 School District Board, that serves seven cities in the north metro area.  She has served since 2013 and during her tenure, there has been significant progress. “Graduation rates are up 7% since 2014 and have surpassed the state average. The Class of 2016 had the highest average ACT score of any class at 19.2”, argues Plomer.

Academics is not the only area of improvement for Adams 12. “We have improved our community outreach. The community feels now as part of the school.”, she said. Plomer mentioned as evidence, the fact that 62 percent of voters approved the 350-million bond in November 2016. With these resources, the district will update their buildings and seek expanded opportunities for their students. Plomer said the district is considering a new center for technical and vocational training.

Transparency

The current school board has invited the public to review the way the budget is handled by the district. In the past, the teacher’s association accused the district of not being transparent with the handling of resources. Now, that association, as well as other members of the community participate in an 18-people committee in charge of making decisions over the budget. The district uses a model of decision by consensus. “Adams 12 school board is completed different. It is amazing. No more drama,” she said.
