Hans Meyer, attorney specialized in immigration, believes this “anti-sanctuary” bill is the wrong answer to a murder perpetrate by an undocumented immigrant in San Francisco in July of this year. “This initiative is making all immigrants pay for the actions of one.” Meyer defended the persistence of policies adopted by more than 50 counties and their police departments in Colorado, between April and September of 2014. “In Colorado, trust has grown between communities and the local police departments,” he said.

The attorney states that “such proposal will revert more than 5 years of efforts that are vital to keep public safety. Here, people can denounce dangerous situations and seek protection without the fear to be deported and separated from their families.” He also added:
“It is not legal to keep a person indefinitely detained, just based on the fact that they have no documents. This type of action violates the principles of our Constitution. There are other ways to proceed according to the law.”

“We should bring this topic to the dirty game of politics” concluded Meyer. The anti-sanctuary bill has been baptized as the “Donald Trump Act”, in light of the fact that he has taken illegal immigration as the flagship of his campaign.
