JASON CROW AND LEVI TILLEMANN VISITED EL COMERCIO DE COLORADO

During their visit to our offices, Jason Crow and Levi Tillemann, both Democratic hopefuls for the 6th Congressional District, assured that their priority is to promote a universal health care system for the Americans. Tillemann would be willing to vote for a bill like the “Medicare for All,” presented by Bernie Sanders, which has the support of 122 democrats in the house. “Health care is not a choice. It not a something that you can decide whether you need or whether you don’t,” said Tillemann, entrepreneur and former officer of the Obama administration’s Department of Energy.

Tillemann expressed his disagreement with Mike Coffman, incumbent on the same district. “He wants to turn Medicare and Medicaid into ‘block grant programs’.  It is a call for rationing, giving each state a specific amount of money. According to this view, it does no matter how much money you need. It does not matter if there is a natural disaster,” he explained. This Democratic hopeful wants the new health care system to be implemented immediately. Meanwhile, Crow, Tillemann’s contender for primaries, wants to fix the current health care system.

A different point of view

“We have to defend the progress made by the Affordable Care Act. Under this, we added 20 million of Americans to the health care system. After one year of the Trump administration, two million of those had already fallen out,” said Crow. This candidate believes it is fundamental to reinstate the individual mandate to prevent the health system from getting destabilized in the future. The other action Crow proposes is to promote competition in individual market places. He explained that new insurance carriers should not only be private companies but also federal public options, or health programs operated with public funds such as Medicare X.

Crow believes additional action needs to be taken to improve the health care system. According to this decorated veteran, “we need to look at programs like reinsurance that would spread out the risks. The reinsurance is a mechanism by which we can spread our risk to a more than one market place and reduce premiums for everybody on the system”. Crow continued, “We need to have the federal government leverage its negotiation power to reduce prescription drugs prices. The federal government should go to pharmaceutical companies and bargain with them to reduce those costs.”
