WILL COMPETE AT THE 2018 MARINERA FESTIVAL

Newsroom/El Comercio de Colorado

Camila Lopez Alvarado has an ambitious goal. This 14-year-old, born in Denver, wants to reach the highest place at the 2018 Marinera Festival. This event gathers in Trujillo, northern coastal state of Peru, dancers that come from all over the world. All these artists, organized in 9 categories, cultivate the art of La Marinera, a traditional dance from that region of Peru. Camila wants to be one of the three winners on the junior category. And she has worked hard to achieve that goal.

In 2017, she participated in Marinera challenges in six states of the U.S. and brought home the first place on all of them. In Nevada, she seized the “North American pass”, that placed her at the second semifinal for the Marinera Festival. She must compete against other 19 couples. If she wins, she will face another round of 7 couples. If she prevails at that round, she and her dance partner would be one of the three finalist couples at the worldwide dance festival. Competitions will take place on January 29th.

Her education

Her impeccable performance is the result of many years of practice. She began practicing this discipline at the Ritmos de Mi Perú Academy in Denver, when she was 8 years old. At that time, it was her hobby. Later, when she was 11 and was showing her grace and talent for La Marinera, she began training with Estefani and Miguel Torres, at the Brisas de Mi Perú Academy, also in Denver. With the Torres she has achieved competition level. And she continues to learn. From January 10th through the 28th, before the competition, she will be training in Lima, Perú.
