Translation by Eva Reinoso Tejada

This is the first time that Jason Crow, war veteran and practicing attorney, will seek an elected office job. In many campaign events he is seen with his wife Deserai and sometimes with his two children. “I am a first-time candidate. I’ve never run for anything before. My wife and I have been motivated to run this race because we don’t feel like politics are working for most working families here, in the country and our community”. He says he has attended more than 300 community gatherings.

He also explains that he has learned a lot from talking to thousands of families. “I certainly have learned about the struggles that they have day to day and what they need from our representatives. I have been growing and learning as a candidate and as a person. You must learn after talking to many people, but our values and principles are the same. People want new leadership. They want people who have not served their lives in politics but have proven themselves in service to the country and the community and take those lessons and apply those to politics”, he said.

Crow stated he has two urgent matters to address as soon as he gets to Congress. He will support the election of new Democratic leadership at the House of Representatives. “I don’t want to support the current leadership. It is time for a new generation.” And continues, “We have to pass the Dream Act. It has waited for too long. Prior politicians weep on making promises, promises and promises for years and DACA kids still do not have the safety and security they need, and they do not have an answer. If we get new people elected there will an opportunity to get that done”.

Gun control

The candidate has listened to how teachers, students, and parents are afraid to go to school for how common violence has become in schools. And he believes he knows what he is talking about. “I am a hunter. I grew up as a hunter. I started hunting deer, duck and rabbits when I was a young kid. Then I became an army ranger. I used weapons of war. And at war these weapons were used against me. I have no conflict with the Second Amendment. I am a responsible owner of weapons, “he said.

The candidate proposes a plan of gun violence prevention. He supports restrictions on the sale of guns to certain people. According to Crow, those with a criminal background and those who can’t get on an airplane for national security reasons should not be able to buy guns. In addition to that, Crown believes the public shouldn’t have access to buying high capacity ammunition storage or magazines, or weapons of war. And he supports those who believe guns could be removed by judicial order for people that might be considered dangerous.

Crow believes the progress of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), approved under the Obama administration, must be defended. “20 million of people got medical coverage, but in less than a year of the Trump administration, two million of those have lost it,” said Crow. This candidate believes that the individual mandate must be reinstated and supports competition in the markets with private insurance providers, but also with public programs like Medicare.

Message for his opponent, Mike Coffman

I want him to return the millions of dollars that corporate PAC has taken from lobbyists and special interests. If you want to know how Mike Coffman would vote on an issue, all you have to do is look at who is contributing to his campaign. And it is wrong. You should represent the people of the district and what they need rather than special-interest lobbies in Washington. I want him to return that money. When will he return that money?
