THEY SENT MESSAGE TO PAUL RYAN, SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE

Newsroom/El Comercio de Colorado

At group of more than 30 moderate Republican Congressmen wrote a letter to ask Paul Ryan, Speaker of the House, to call for a vote a bill that will grant legal status to thousands of Dreamers previously protected by DACA. On the letter, the representatives told Ryan that they “support” the passing of a “permanent legislative solution (…) before the end of the year 2017.” The representatives assured this bill has bipartisan support.

“DACA recipients- young brought to America through no fault of their own- are contributing members of our communities and our economy. For many, this is the only country they have ever known. They are in every way except their immigration status” explains the letter. The initiative is being led by Republicans Scott Taylor (Virginia), Carlos Curbelo (Florida), and Mike Coffman (Colorado).

A Dreamer speaks up

Juan Escalante, beneficiary of DACA, is asking moderate Republicans and Democrats to cause a crisis in the Federal Government. Per Escalante, this crisis could be caused by a negative of approval for the budget, if it doesn’t include a solution for DACA beneficiaries. If no agreement is reached for the budget, the U.S. would face a Government shutdown before the end of the year. There would be no money to function and make payments. That is the pressure DACA beneficiaries might have to achieve the regularization of their immigration status.
