A CLOSE GAME IS EXPECTED

Newsroom/El Comercio de Colorado

The New England Patriots and the Philadelphia Eagles will face each other for the Super Bowl LII. These two teams fulfilled the predictions and earned the titles for their respective conferences, the AFC and the NFC. The Patriots, at the Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, with their quarterback Tom Brady as the star, defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Meanwhile at the Lincoln Financial Field of Philadelphia, the Eagles with their substitute quarterback Nick Foles, who was replacing an injured Carson Wentz, obtained the NFC title by defeating the Minnesota Vikings 38-7. Both teams are now ready for the Super Bowl, that will be played at the U.S. Bank stadium in Minneapolis, the home of the Vikings. This will be the second Super Bowl in that city, that had also hosted Super Bowl XXVI in 1992. At that time, the game had taken place at the Metrodome, which doesn’t exist any longer.

The two teams

For this, their third Super Bowl, the Eagles bring low expectations. They come with a substitute quarterback, Foles, and none of their players have more than 1,000 yards of scrimmage. The Eagles, as a franchise, have three NFL titles, but all of them happened way earlier than the Super Bowl area. Not many of their current fans witnessed their victory in 1960, 1948 or 1949. In the era of the Super Bowl, the first time they were defeated by the Raiders and the second time by the Patriots.

Meanwhile, the Patriots are the most winning franchise in the new millennium. They have a winning culture based on the mantra “the team is first”, promoted by coach Bill Belichick. This team has been to the Super Bowl eight times; they have earned five titles, 17 consecutive seasons with record wins, seven with at least 13 victories, eight with at least 12, and 278 victories in total. This record makes the Patriots the favorite team at the betting houses.

Close game

Ulises Harada, sports commentator, assures that the game will be “close, defensive and with few points.” “We should expect a game like that of Jacksonville vs Patriots, where one team will seek to run and keep control of the ball -Eagles- and effectively put pressure on the quarterback,” he said. Harada reminded that out of the past seven Super Bowls where Brady and Belichick participated, six of those games were defined by 3 points or less. Harada believes the Patriots will repeat their history.
