SHE ASKS THAT HARRASMENT AGAINST LEADERS BE DENOUNCED

Newsroom/El Comercio de Colorado

Maru Mora-Villalpando, founder of the organizations Latino Advocacy and Northwest Detention Center Resistance, said that ICE got her on their “radar” after she revealed on interview that she didn’t have a legal status. The reasons ICE had to open a deportation procedure were disclosed on Form I-213, used for individuals who are not arrested during raids.

The document states that the immigrant “has become a public figure” and “has extensive involvement with anti-ICE protests and Latino advocacy programs.” “They are persecuting me for political reasons and they are also violating my constitutional right to protest and speak to the press. The evidence is in their own document,” explained the activist.

She encourages to denounce similar cases

Mora-Villalpando was able to obtain the public record document through the office of Democratic Senator Maria Elaine Cantwell. The activist explained that the federal authorities denied her access to the document, even though it had information about her case. With this evidence she is planning in going to the courts and also investigate if this practice is also being used for other activists.
