For almost 19 years I have called Colorado home. Here my community has nurtured my dreams and invested in my success and thanks to the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program I have been able to pay it forward. After becoming the first in my family to graduate college, I became an educator to nurture the dreams of other students, as others in my community had done for me.

I wanted to ensure that all families, regardless of their economic background have equal access to resources and the information they need to help ensure the success of their children. I now work as the Colorado State Immigration Manager for FWD.us were I fight for smart policies and reforms to our immigration system so that more families across the state can access opportunities to thrive.

Over the past 7 years, more than 800,000 immigrant young people like myself have been able to work, attend school, better support their families, and make even greater contributions to our communities and our country because of the temporary protection from deportation granted by the DACA program. However, the Trump Administration’s decision to terminate the DACA program nearly two years ago has thrown our lives into chaos.

In the months following, there were multiple lawsuits filed across the country that challenged the administration’s actions to terminate the program. Although the courts have allowed DACA renewals to remain in place, we continue to face an uncertain future fearing the risk of deportation and being separated from our families and our communities. Meanwhile, thousands of other young people are facing this reality since first-time applications are not being accepted.

On November 12, the Supreme Court will hear arguments on whether or not the termination of DACA is unconstitutional. We don’t know what the future holds but as long as my work permit is valid I am going to get up and keep fighting for DACA recipients and their families. But DACA recipients like myself need your help too.  Spread the word that DACA renewals remain in place, encourage DACA recipients to visit renewmyDACA.com or informedimmigrant.com and talk with an attorney to consider their renewal options.

I am grateful for everyone in my community who have shown their support. We cannot win this fight without you, and it’s now more important than ever to show that the majority of Americans support this program and that together we create our communities, we create this place we call home. We’ve united behind the #HomeIsHere campaign to protect DACA recipients at the U.S. Supreme Court. We won’t stop fighting until DACA recipients, their families, and immigrants everywhere are safe. Spread the word and share this campaign homeishere.us.
