INTERVIEW WITH THE COLORADO RAPIDS GOALKEEPER

Newsroom/El Comercio de Colorado

Tim Howard, goalkeeper and captain of the Colorado Rapids, is not discouraged. Howard believes this was not a good season for his team, but he is certain that next season will be better. This player understands that the team needs time to develop a game style after all the changes they had in players and technical personnel at the end of the last season. Howard has high expectations on what will be the World Cup 2026 and remembered his times at the Manchester United.

What is your balance of the Rapids performance during the current season?

Tim Howard: It has not been a good season in terms of our results. But, it should be considered that at the end of last season, we changed half of the team’s players and the entire coaching staff. It takes time to develop a style of play. And now we have to add more players.

What is your message to the fans for the coming season?

TH: Next season will be better, and it has to be better. We are convinced that better players will be recruited. It’s about getting high quality players. We will make these changes at the end of the season and that will allow us to improve.

How have these years been in Colorado Rapids?

TH: Next season will be better and it has to be better. We are convinced that better players will be recruited. It’s about getting high quality players. We will make these changes at the end of the season and that will allow us to improve.

How do you imagine the 2026 World Cup in the US?

TH: It will be a very special event. In 1994, we hosted the World Cup. But, that event took place before we had a professional soccer league. Now, the situation is different. We have many stadiums that are built especially for soccer and the number of teams continues to grow. It will be a special moment for us to show the rest of the world the level that soccer has reached in North America.

What did it mean for you to be directed by Sir Alex Ferguson?

TH: It was a good time for me. Alex Ferguson is the best coach in the history of soccer. I feel very fortunate to have spent that time at Manchester United. My career took off in England.

What did mean for you to be a teammate of CR7 in ManU?

TH: Cristiano is the best player in the world. He was a kid when I was at Manchester United. It was something special to see him grow up and become a global superstar.

In 5 years, what would you like to do?

TH: I’ll be doing television. And I would like to continue growing in my role as manager or owner of soccer clubs.
