Trump is open to come to an agreement that would provide a temporary migratory solution for DACA beneficiaries in exchange for funds to build the wall in the Mexican border. A source told EFE that high officials of his administration are negotiating with Congress a “bipartisan” solution to the “Dreamer” issue and the wall, that could be tacked on to the budget legislators need to approve before March 23rd.

Based on this, the Washington Post indicated that Trump is willing to consider a two or three-year extension for the DACA program. The president would be demanding an undisclosed amount of money in exchange, to build the wall. That scenario leaves out two other points that Trump was previously demanding: The cancelation of the diversity visa lottery and the hardening of the family reunification laws for legal immigrants in the country.

Common ground

Those two points were the most opposed y the Democrats in February, when Congress and the White House tried unsuccessfully to come to an agreement to replace DACA. Back then, Trump offered a path to citizenship for 1.8 million undocumented youth in exchange for the previously mentioned amendments to legal immigration plus 25 thousand million dollars over a decade to lift the wall and reinforce the southern border.
